FAQs
We understand that updates can sometimes be a bit of a hassle. Let me please reassure you that in this case however:
- - This new version (“Arlo Secure”) includes features that are highly recommended (such as the “arm home” mode)
- - You will need it to benefit from the new products, services and futures being launched in the future
- - The upgrade process is designed to take less than 2 min (see question below)
So, to ensure you get the best service experience, we strongly recommend upgrading to the latest version at your earliest convenience!
The new app version is compatible with most modern smartphones. To ensure the best experience, your device should meet the following requirements:
- - iOS: your iPhone, iPad, or iPod Touch must be running iOS version 11 or later. You can check your iOS version by going to Settings > General > About > Software Version
- - Android: your smartphone or tablet must be running Android version 8.0 or later. To find out which version of Android your device is using, go to Settings > About Phone > Software Information
Make sure you:
- - Access the current version of the app with a compatible phone (see appendix)
- - Go to the Settings tab, so that you can see the “Upgrade Now” banner
- - Navigate through all educational screen in the carrousel (x5) until arriving to the “Start Upgrade” one
Finally, you can change the rule settings by clicking on each device under device rules (>) on the Modes list. By default, you will have the following ones:
When:
- Motion Detected: On
- Audio Detected: On
Then:
- Record Video: On
- Send Notification
- Push Notification: On
- Activate Siren: Off
Please follow these steps:
- Go to the Routines tab, then click on the “plus” sign on the upper-right corner of the screen
- Tap or click Add Arrive/Leave
Click “Anyone Arrives” within the “Select Arrive or Leave”, choose an event (such as “Anyone arrives” or “Everyone leaves”) and click on Save:
- Your camera uses the “Everyone leaves” event when your mobile device is out of your property (outside the radius of the camera location)
- Your camera uses the “Anyone arrives” event when your mobile device is at your property (within the radius of the camera location)
- For each event, tap Add Action, select the action you would like to occur by clicking “Change Mode” and tap on Next:
- Most people select “Arm Away” (formerly called “Armed”) or adapt the “Arm Home” mode so that the camera detects motion and records while they are outside
- Most people select “Standby” (formerly called “Disarmed”) or “Arm Home” while they are indoors
- You can also add other actions to each event such as send notification, record a video, etc.
- In case necessary, choose the device that you would like to use for the Action and click Save
- You will see a screen with a Location map:- Ensure the address is the correct one
- To change the radius size, tap “Edit Geofence” and select Small, Medium or Large (approximately 150, 250 and 500 m. respectively), then click on Save
- Tap on Save in the upper-right corner to confirm the configuration
- Once the new Arrive / Leave configuration is preset, it will be visible from Automations (within the Routines tab)
Please follow these steps:
- - Go to the Routines tab and click “Automations”
- - Click the Arrive / Leave configuration you want to check
- - Click Always Enabled in case you would like to have the Schedule automation only occur when your system is in a specific mode. Otherwise all three modes are enabled by default
- - In the Location map section, you can check/edit the location and radius by clicking on “Edit Geofence”
- - In the Arrive/Leave section, you can review/edit for the indicated event (“When”) what is the action (“Then”) associated to it
- - You can find all the detail info on how to configure the actions in the “How do I create a new Arrive/Leave (formerly Geofencing) configuration?” question
- - Click on Save to keep the modifications made or on Cancel for no changes
- - You can enable/disable your automation by clicking on the “location” icon to the left of the Arrive/Leave configuration name
Please follow these steps:
- - Click the profile icon on the top left corner of the app
- - Tap Privacy Center and then go to the Account section
- - Click Available Geofence Devices. The devices listed will be the ones used for the Arrive / Leave functionality
- - To remove a device, click on the “‒“ red sign
- - Tap Delete to confirm your choice and the device will disappear from the list
Note: To add an overnight arm-disarm sequence such as 8:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m., you need to add two separate schedules:. First, add a Schedule automation to occur at 8 p.m. (e.g. “Arm Home”), then add another Schedule automation to occur at 6 a.m. (e.g. “Standby”)
- Go to the Routines tab, then click on the “plus” sign on the upper-right corner of the screen
- Tap or click Add Schedule
- Select which days of the week and the time you would like the Schedule automation to occur. Tap Add Action
- Select the action you would like to occur at the selected time by clicking “Change Mode” and click on Next:
- Most people select the “Arm Away” or adapt the “Arm Home” mode so that the camera detects motion overnight
- Most people select “Standby” (formerly called “Disarmed”) during the day
- You can also add other actions to each event such as send notification, record a video, etc. or enable / disable another automation
- In case necessary, choose the device that you would like to use for the Action and click Save
- Click Always Enabled in case you would like to have the Schedule automation only occur when your system is in a specific mode. Otherwise all three modes are enabled by default
- If you would like more than one action to take place at the specified time, tap or click Add Action. When you’re done, click on Save
- Once the new Schedule automation is preset, it will be visible from Automations (within the Routines tab)
Please follow these steps:
- - Go to the Routines tab and click “Automations”
- - Click the Schedule automation you want to check
- - Click Always Enabled in case you would like to have the Schedule automation only occur when your system is in a specific mode. Otherwise all three modes are enabled by default
- - In the Schedule section, you can check / edit for the indicated time (“When”) what is the action (“Then”) associated to it
- - You can find all the detail info on how to configure the actions in the “How do I create a new Schedule automation for my Arlo device(s)?” question
- - Click on Save to keep the modifications made or on Cancel for no changes
- - You can enable/disable your automation by clicking on the “clock” icon to the left of the Schedule automation name
It is possible that, when upgrading to the new Arlo Secure version, previous configurations are not carried over. If that occurs, please follow these steps depending on the type of configuration:
- - Custom modes: Go to the Routines tab, then click on “Modes”. Click on the mode you want to customize, then proceed as indicated in the “How do I set up the new arm home mode?” question
- - Arrive / Leave (formerly Geofencing): Proceed as indicated in the Question “How do I create a new Arrive / Leave (formerly Geofencing) configuration?”
- - Schedule automation: Proceed as indicated in the Question “How do I create a new Schedule automation for my Arlo device(s)?”
- - Add friends: Proceed as indicated in the Question “How do I grant access to other users?”
- - Click on the “person” icon on the upper-left corner of the screen, then click on People
- - Select the “plus” icon on the upper-right corner
- - Enter the name and email of the new user, then select the devices you authorize to access and the respective rules (access rights for cameras, access rights and / or audio video doorbell calls for the video-doorbell)
- - Click on Send Invite. The new user’s name will be displayed under People with a Pending status until they accept the invitation
To create the new location(s), follow these steps:
- - Click on the “person” icon on the upper-left corner of the screen, then click on the plus sign to the right of the “Locations and Plans” section title
- - Enter a location name (e.g. “Beach apartment”) and continue
- - Enter street address, city and postal code, then continue
- - Select your location time-zone and click on Finish
To add the specific devices related to the desired location, do the following:
- - Go to the Devices tab, then click on the device you want to link to the new location
- Click on the wheel icon in the upper-right corner
- Click on the “>” sign to the right of the device name
- Within the Location section, click on the current location to the right of the section
- A menu will appear with all the locations created, select the one desired
- An alert message (“Are You Sure?”) will appear warning about the possible loss of recordings in the cloud (as you are a Verisure user, no need to worry as this will not happen). Click on Continue
- Your device has been changed to the new location
From now on, you will find each device within each respective location. To do so, follow these steps:
- - Go to the Devices tab
- - At the toop of the screen you will see the currently selected location. Click on it to change it
- - A drop-down menu will appear with all the created locations, select the desired one
- - The devices linked to the selected location will automatically appear on the screen
